Frequently asked questions

Who can register?

This site is for beekeepers (pollinators) and growers (people seeking pollination for their farms and gardens). The size of your operation doesn't matter - any beekeeper can help pollinate and anyone who is a serious gardener or farmer can benefit from pollination.

Is there a cost?

Yes. Here's how it works:

Membership level Number of hives you can register or reserve Yearly membership fee
Hobbyist 1 - 10 Free!
Sideliner 11 - 50 $9.99
Professional 51 + $19.99

At the Hobbyist membership level, beekeepers can register up to 10 hives with Pollinationsource.com and growers can have up to 10 hives reserved at a time. At the Sideliner membership level, beekeepers can register up to 50 hives and growers can have up to 50 hives reserved at a time. At the Professional membership level, beekeepers can register as many hives as they want and growers can contract as many as they want.

How are payments made?

At this time, all payments are handled via PayPal. Growers are not required to have a PayPal account, since payment can be made via PayPal with a valid credit card. Beekeepers must have a PayPal account so that they can receive payments for pollination.

How does the comission work?

First, payment for pollination is made by the grower. Before it even gets to Pollinationsource.com, PayPal takes its comission of 2.9% + $0.30. After that, Pollinationsource.com sends the remainder of the payment minus a 2.1% (of the original amount) comission to the beekeeper.

How do you match people?

First, we ask lots of questions. We ask beekeepers what types of crops they are willing to pollinate, any restrictions they have, the prices they charge and the distance they are willing to travel, for example. We ask farmers what kind of crops they are pollinating, whether they use chemical pesticides, and how much they are willing to pay for pollination.

We enter all of this information into our database. Then we give it a good shake, apply our magic formula, and match people up with each other.

Now that we think of it, it's sort of like a dating service for beekeepers and farmers.

How long does my membership last?

All memberships last for one year.

Is there any fine print?

It's all in our User Agreement.

Are you a beekeeper?

Yes. I've been keeping bees on a small scale (25 - 35 hives) for more than ten years.

I'm a gardener. Is there a chance I could be matched with you?

Yes. But don't tell my wife.

So what's your "magic formula"?

Lots of pollen. We tried honey, but it gets our computers all sticky.
